Mr. Mastorisのお気に入りの子どもの本
ケンジントンの目標のひとつは、子どもたちの中に、物語を楽しむ心、文学を愛する心、そして最終的には読書を愛する心を育てることです。
私自身、親として、子どもたちが成長していく中で、ぜひ与えたいと思っていたもののひとつがこれでした。子どもたちの周りに本がある環境を作り、夜の習慣として読書の時間を大切にするようにしてきました。
これまで、親として、そして教育者として、たくさんの絵本を個人的に集めてきました。今回は、その中から私のお気に入りの子ども向けの本をいくつかご紹介したいと思います。
このリストでは、6冊の本を選びました。対象年齢はおおよそ5歳から10歳くらいを想定していますが、中にはもっと小さなお子さまにも合う本もありますし、年齢が上のお子さまでも楽しめる本もあります。実際には、お子さま一人ひとりによって異なります。
本は、英語レベルごとに Easy、Medium、Hard の3つに分けました。
Easy の本は、お子さまの年齢や英語レベルによっては、部分的に自分で読めるかもしれない本です。Hard の本は、特に小学3年生・4年生以上の英語力が高いお子さまにより適しています。ただし、難しめの本であっても、保護者の方が読み聞かせをして、一緒に楽しむことで、とても素晴らしい読書体験になります。
これらの本の中には、何世代にもわたって子どもたちに愛されてきたものもあります。私自身、自分の子どもたちと一緒に読むことを心から楽しみましたし、それらの本は子どもたちの幼少期の一部になりました。子どもたちが成長してからも、その思い出を大切に持ち続けてくれたら嬉しく思います。
そして、これらの本のいくつかが、皆さまのお子さまの幼少期の一部にもなれば嬉しいです。

Mr. Mastoris’ Favorite English Books for Children
One of our goals at Kensington is to inspire in our children a love of storytelling, a love of literature, and ultimately, a love of reading.
As a parent, this is something I always wanted to provide to my own children as they were growing up. I tried to surround them with books and make reading a regular part of our nighttime routine.
Over the years, both as a parent and as an educator, I have built up a large personal collection of picture books and I wanted to share some of my favorite children’s books with you.
For this list, I chose six books. They are intended for children aged around 5 to 10, although some may also be suitable for younger children, and some may be enjoyed by older children too. It really depends on the child.
I have separated the books into three English levels: Easy, Medium, and Hard.
The Easy books are books that your child could read parts of, depending on their age and English level. The Hard books are more suitable for children with stronger English, especially children around Grade 3 or Grade 4 and above. However, even harder books can still be wonderful if a parent reads them aloud and enjoys them together with the child.
Some of these have been loved by generations of children. I thoroughly enjoyed reading them with my own children, and they became part of their childhood. I hope they are memories they will carry with them as they grow older.
And I hope some of these books can become part of your children’s childhood too.
