Which Class Is Right for Your Child?

At Kensington, finding the right fit for your child’s age and level is our first priority. Children learn best when they are in classes designed for their stage of development and current English ability. Use the guide below to help us find the best class for your child. If we don’t feel we have the right class for your child right now, we’ll tell you honestly.

Kensington International Preschool

Children born between April 2, 2023 – April 1, 2024

Children may join for one year of focused English development before moving on to another kindergarten, or as the first year of a longer-term program at Kensington International Preschool.

Half Day Program: 10:00–14:30
Full Day Program: 10:00–16:00 / 9:30–15:30

Attendance: Families may choose 2 to 5 days per week

Families joining our preschool in April 2026 will receive a ¥60,000 discount on the entrance fee for the first year.

3 - 5 Years Old Kindergarten-Age Programs

For children aged 3-5 years old, Kensington offers two excellent program options, depending on your child’s needs and your family’s schedule.

Whether children join our International Preschool or our Afterschool Kindergarten Classes (for children attending other kindergartens), all Kensington programs are built on:

International Preschool

A carefully designed preschool program where children learn, explore, and grow in a rich English-language environment throughout the day.

Afterschool Kindergarten Classes

For children who attend a different kindergarten during the day and join Kensington after school.

Attendance: 2+ days per week
Locations: Hirao-Josui or Sakurazaka

Kensington Kids Academy – Elementary Program

We welcome a wide range of levels-from beginners to advanced learners—including returnees, students who have graduated from international kindergarten programs, and students attending immersion programs..
Classes are designed according to each child’s level, age, and learning needs, so we ask for flexibility in day selection. By sharing your child’s learning history and goals, we can more smoothly recommend the best class fit.

  • Small classes that allow for individualised support (typically a maximum of 6–8 students)
  • A fun, safe environment focused on communication, as well as social and academic growth
  • An original curriculum designed by our teaching team span>
  • Students develop all core skills; speaking, listening, reading, and writing
  • Clear academic progress alongside a genuine enjoyment of learning
Lesson length: 90 minutes
Locations: Hirao-Josui, Yakuin, Sakurazaka
